Plane crash kills 10, wounds 4 in Russia's Kamchatka peninsula

MOSCOW - Russia's Emergencies Ministry says 10 people have been killed and four injured in a plane crash in Russia's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula.

It said the Antonov-28 plane crash-landed early Wednesday near the town of Palana in western Kamchatka, some 6,800 kilometres (4,200 miles) east of Moscow.

It says in a statement that the two-engine turboprob had 14 people aboard, including two children and two crew members.

Local airport officials told the Interfax news agency that an engine malfunction was a possible cause of the crash.

The plane, belonging to the Petropavlovsko-Kamchatskaya airline, was flying from the regional capital of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana.
