The iPhone 5 officially launched today; and while AT&T seems to dominate?the other U.S. carriers in terms of user base, iDownloadBlog?reported that ...More Verizon customers, many of whom are jumping ship from AT&T over FaceTime restrictions, can still take advantage of AT&T?s network. ~ According to iDB, the Verizon iPhone 5 is GSM unlocked. So, you can pop in almost any nano SIM to get service. This is traditionally used for roaming overseas on international roaming plans, but it is also the first time an iPhone has shipped with the ability to hop onto AT&T?s network inside the United States. There is no word yet on whether this trick can pick up AT&T?s LTE signal, but it is at least working with HSPA+. ~ While it is not confirmed, there is a good chance that this will also work with Straight Talk SIM cards?provided you are daring enough to cut it down to nano SIM size. The same goes for T-Mobile?s nano SIM cards. ~ // <![CDATA[ google_ad_client = "ca-pub-3198912476826619"; /* 9to5Mac: Under */ google_ad_slot = "2958773110"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; // ]]> ~ Related articles ~ * All you need to know about a (possible) Verizon iPhone ~ * Here?s a first look at a AT&T nano-SIMs for the iPhone 5 ...Less gsm : sim : verizon : verizon-iphone : iphone :

App Advice ? The folks at iDownloadBlog have confirmed that the Verizon iPhone 5 is GSM unlocked. This means that you can own a Verizon iPhone and actually use it on another ...More carrier, such as AT&T or T-Mobile. ~ To get this to work, iDownloadBlog actually cut down an AT&T Micro SIM to use it in a Verizon handset. However, you don?t have to do this yourself. ~ They state: ~ I can?t recommend cutting your own SIM, or even worse, cutting your SIM and placing a piece of tape on it and sticking it in your brand new iPhone 5, with a paper clip no less (I?m cray cray like that), but you should be able to pick up a Nano SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile, and use it on one of those respective networks. (sic) ~ Take a look: ~ This news is terrific for travelers who may need to switch out SIMs from time to time, and obviously for anyone that might get grow tired of their existing carrier. ~ Source:?iDownloadBlog ~ Have you picked up your iPhone 5 yet? ~ Big News: The Verizon iPhone 5 Is GSM Unlocked is a story by AppAdvice.com ~ AppAdvice - iPhone, iPad, iPod, App Reviews + News ...Less verizon-iphone : gsm : idownloadblog : micro-sim : gsm-unlocked :

Even though I bought an iPhone 5 from Verizon under contract, I was able to cut down my AT&T Micro SIM, and use it in my Verizon iPhone 5 to pick up an AT&T signal. By doing so, I was able to hop onto AT&T?s HPSA+ network, or ?4G? as they so ridiculously name it. ~ As the report notes, users attempting to use a Verizon iPhone 5 on AT&T in the United States will not have access to AT&T's LTE network, due to hardware differences that leave the Verizon iPhone 5 (which is essentially a single CDMA/GSM world-mode phone for 3G purposes) incompatible with LTE frequency bands 4 and 17 used by AT&T and Canadian carriers. ~ For other international GSM carriers, Verizon iPhone 5 owners should simply be able to obtain a nano-SIM card from the international carrier and use it in their phone. ~ Recent Mac and iOS Blog Stories ~ * How the iPhone 4 Displays Map Directions in iOS 6 ~ * Apple's iTunes and Mac App Store Traffic Increases Ninefold for iOS 6 Launch Day ~ * Verizon and AT&T Expand LTE Coverage in Many Regions Ahead of iPhone 5 Launch ~ * Fix for App Store and Passbook 'Can't Connect to iTunes Store' Error ~ * Apple Updates iOS iLife Apps: iPhoto, GarageBand, and iMovie ...Less gsm : sim : idownloadblog : verizon-iphone : micro-sim :

Geekosystem ? In a happy surprise, iDownloadBlog confirms that Verizon?s iPhone 5 comes GSM unlocked out of the box. Now, you can?t just decide ?I want it on ...More AT&T,? you have to do a bit of handy work to get it on your service of choice. ~ First off, as someone who used every American mobile phone service and ended up sticking with Verizon for years, I don?t know why you?d want a phone on something other than Verizon?s stellar coverage. However, if you wat to avoid Verizon?s one big flaw ? being unable to use data while on a phone call ? iDownloadBlog has found that if you put in a bit of dangerous handy work, your unlocked Verizon iPhone 5 can hop on any GSM network. ~ That handy work? Cutting down AT&T?s Micro SIM card and fitting it into the Verizon phone. However, iDownloadBlog notes that you can go to an AT&T or T-Mobile store and buy a Nano SIM, which should comfortably fit into the Verizon iPhone 5 without requiring any kind of tech surgery. ~ The best part about the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5? Verizon is totally aware, and cool with it. iDownloadBlog contacted Verizon, and they not only said that yes, they knew, and yes, they were fine with it, but customers can use another SIM even if they?re under contract, and even if they just signed onto said contract. ~ This is actually great news for travelers who like to stick with Verizon as their carrier of choice, but also great news in general, because it?s rare when a company allows you to just do whatever you want with their product. Just ask any homebrew scene on almost any popular device. Check out a video from iDownloadBlog showing the handy work: ~ Good work, you guys. ~ (via iDownloadBlog) ~ Relevant to your interests ~ * The iPhone 5 actually fared better than the Samsung Galaxy S III in a drop test ~ * Everyone ever preordered the iPhone 5 ~ * These people probably feel silly when they got tricked into a thinking a 4S was a 5 ...Less verizon-iphone : idownloadblog : gsm : verizons-iphone : verizon : 5/12 articles
