Recording Arts is Full Sail?s oldest degree program ??it?s the only subject matter the school taught when it first opened its doors back in 1979. Today, the Recording Arts Bachelor?s Degree is still one of the staple programs that Full Sail offers. And while there is a heavy focus on recording, producing, and engineering musicians and bands, the program also encompasses live audio, game audio, and post-production for films and movies.
?When you think of audio, almost anything we do involves audio to some extent,? says Brandon Egerton, Recording Arts Program Manager. ?This program presents many diverse opportunities for students; not just the music industry side of things.?
Throughout the course of the 20-month program, students are given a solid foundation of the recording industry while learning to record, mix, and master music. They work with instructors who all have real-life industry experience, take technical courses like Music Theory and Digital Audio and Theory, and work in the studio to record live musicians during Session Recording courses. Students have access to a vast amount of equipment, including the Audio Temple, a 72-channel SSL Duality hybrid console, an AMek 9098 SSL 9000J recording console, six ProTools suites, and a Mix Palace with 24 individual mix suites.
?There?s quite a mix of facilities that we are able to give students exposure to,? says Brandon. ?It?s not often you get to go to a place and work out of your own studio and call on an instructor to help you.?
After graduation, students can take on anything from being an engineer in a studio, a studio assistant, producer, or a mix engineer (once they?ve gained experience). Other non-music industry career options include working in game audio, post-production, or live event engineering and production.
?Since I?ve been here I?ve tried to help students realize that their success is largely dependent on their work ethic,? says Brandon. ?The dream they have to work in this business will come as a result of them really working hard.?
