Realscreen expands awards initiative, opens call for submissions ...

Realscreen Awards

Realscreen is expanding the range of its annual awards presentation, and rebranding the event in the process.

The Realscreen Awards, formerly known as the realscreen Factual Entertainment Awards, is now recognizing a wider array of non-fiction programming in addition to?its diverse assortment of factual entertainment categories.

The non-fiction categories for the awards have been revamped, in order to make them more inclusive of the wide range of non-fiction television programming covered year-round by realscreen and realscreen.com.

New non-fiction categories include arts?& culture, environmental/natural history, history/biographical, science?& technology, and social issues/current affairs.

The awards celebration will also encompass factual/non-fiction digital and branded content, with categories for best brand-funded project, best multi-platform project and best web series/programs now added to the mix.

?We launched the realscreen Factual Entertainment Awards in 2010 to acknowledge the fact that the diverse sub-genres of factual entertainment programming weren?t being adequately represented in the awards circuit up to that point,? said realscreen editor Barry Walsh. ?Three years in, and the range of programming we?ve honored, coupled with the volume of entries received over the three ceremonies, proves that we were onto something. Now it?s time for our awards celebration to branch out and celebrate the full range of non-fiction television programming that realscreen has been devoted to covering for the past 15 years.?

The submission process for the 2013 Realscreen Awards is now open. Entrants have until February 8 to submit programming made between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.
